I thought I read somebody with the same problem as me earlier, but I could not find the thread.

Anyways, I downloaded the Ottawa show and Gift Shop, won't decode for me. I have "Dec through errors" checked off, and still nothing.

Can anybody either give me some suggestions? Or even just send me a .wav or .mp3 file of it to my email or something?

Hey everyone, I managed to get the hipbase mentioned in the Guelph Mercury in an article published today to promote the show at Guelph Lake on Sunday!

I had emailed the paper two weeks ago to make sure they were going to write up an article about the show. I just received an email back yesterday afternoon from one of their writers who said he'd like to talk to me to gauge how excited people in Guelph were about the event. I ended up speaking to him for about a half hour and he asked if he could use some of my quotes in the article. Of course I agreed! Here's a small sampling from the article which is titled, "Tragically Hip Ready to Rock Guelph Lake."

"Count among them Mike McIntyre...who has been listening to the Hip since he was 12 years old. On Sunday you'll find him getting started good and early. Even his sister - flying in from Victoria to see the band - is volunteering in the beer tent because it was the only way she could get into the concert."

"This is huge. Fans around here think they've died and gone to heaven," McIntyre said. "As far as I'm concerned, my summer kicks off this Sunday."

"McIntyre belongs to an online community of Hip fans (Hipbase.com) and said people have been buzzing for weeks about the chance to see the band in what for them is considered a small venue."

"No matter what you think about their music, you've got to respect the group for their staying power, he said. Gord Downie just puts his heart and soul into every performance and the rest of the guys feed off him. They've got more energy on stage than bands half their age," he said.

I'd put the link to the paper in here, but I think you can only view the site if you have a paid membership. Needless to say I'm pretty thrilled that they quoted me so much in the article, and think it's pretty cool that they mentioned the hipbase too! Now I'm really excited for Sunday!!!

Just bought it this afternoon. I've listened to it a couple of times now, and I gotta say this is the best thing he's done in years. I wasn't sure if a Paul Simon/Brian Eno collaboration would work, but the results are freakin' awesome. The songs are amazing, and his lyrics are some of the best he's ever written.

For anyone who has ever been to the Empire Theatre... how bad of a line do you think there will be to pick up tickets? With tickets not able to be picked up until 7PM, won't that be quite challenging for them to check everyone's ID etc. and give them tickets? Do they have more than one ticket window there?

Just wondering because I probably won't be able to make it to Belleville until close to 8:00...

Sarah Harmer will be at the Jubilee Theatre on Sept 25. kleh, c'mon you know you want to be there! It's in your city. I saw her there a few years ago with Nathan Wiley opening and let me tell ya that she did not dissapoint. I was more than satisfied with her stunning performance. What a voice. :thumb:

While watching the game last night, i noticed that they played some Hip at a stoppage in play. Is there a large cdn influence in the Carolina area? or is the music slowly getting airtime further south?

BTW: I love this forum, although i have never posted, until now....

Ok, so I was reading this really cool music rag yesterday called "Paste", which featured their list of the greatest 100 living songwriters (the key word being living). This is an American magazine, so of course the only Canadian representatives on the list were the usual suspects (Young, Mitchell, Cohen). Anyways, after skimming through their list (which was actually pretty damn good), I got to thinking about all their glaring omissions. So because I had nothing better to do at the time, and because I'm a big nerd, I decided to compile my own list of the greatest living Canadian songwriters.
