i posted this topic a few years ago and people really got into it, so i think it's time for an update now that a couple hip and gord solo albums have come out: what's with gord's persistent water imagery in so many songs and rants. i'll only list one obvious one to start with, and people can chime in with the others, as well as their theories as to what might be going on in that feverish brain.

1. nautical disaster

the sea, the ship, the lifeboats, the beach. i've heard it's about a cold break-up, but when gord reaches for a metaphor, it's often the sea and all it's denizens and vehicles. he seems to be invoking the sinking of the nazi flagship (damn i forget the name) "off the coast of france". while the british sailors saved some of the germans from the water, others were certainly left to drown on purpose, payback for the 2000(?) british sailors who perished on the hms hood. sounds like a harsh rejection, eh?
would gord have been so harsh in real life? did he kick some girlfriend off his lifeboat? he seems too nice (or mature or something), and i don't always assume a song in the 1st person is necessarily about the singer.
anyway, every story must be told, and this is a good 'un. i read one review where the writer marvelled at how everyone at a hip show really knows this one and belts it out with the band, even though it has no chorus, and is really such a downer. but what i'd like to know is if anyone out there has any theories about this re-occurring maritime theme. i'd love to be his therapist.

God I love this band...enjoy!!

Just "found" what I think is the first single from the new Queens of the Stone age disk and wow, there is no doubt in my mind that they are going to release one of the best CDs of 07. Amazing riff as usual, but it's the drums that kick this song into the next level...here's hoping they make it to Calgary in their next tour....

I have a friendly request that the setlist archive/song stats section be updated. I love looking at stats and I love that section; however I think it hasn't been updated since 2005.

(Valente has also done a great job with the "2007 Tour Play Count Standings.")

I don't know who to address with this issue, as I don't know who is responsible for this very useful tool. I would be happy to spend a Saturday on this task if it were possible.

I couldn't decide which forum t'throw this into, but I figured I'd get the best response in this one...

I've got my tickets to the two shows...Anyone else headed? What kind of place is Irving Plaza?

Also, being it my first time in the city, any suggestions on what t'do? (Besides the obvious, visiting Monk's Cafe (Seinfeld) and saying hello t'Gus..)

Finally, and most importantly...Any tips on the best record stores in NYC? I'm sure there's a slew of 'em...But any tips on which ones are worth checking out would be greatly appreciated...Rock and roll.

I understand how AdSense and other relevance-based advertising works but unless they've figured out how to generate relevance-based images, somebody at Timbuk2 is a fan.

this must be the billionth post asking for help how to do this. trey from betree was very helpful pointing me in the direction of the software but i really don't want to bother him anymore. the instructions for xact say encoding and decoding are self-explanatory, so he doesn't bother saying how to do it. well i'm not a computer expert, and it's NOT obvious how to do it. i don't even know which action i'm supposed to take, much less how to do it. is there a website somewhere that actually explains this? i would be more than glad to seed shows (though i doubt i'll figure out how to do that either) instead of just "leeching", but this whole business is not user-friendly. i guess free live hip shows are only to be enjoyed by people with PHD's in computer science. all i have is a BA in english but it is rare to find instructions actually written in english instead of all this jargon. help anyone?
