ET has several reliable sources that the FBI and LAPD are investigating legitimate leads on a contract hit on KEVIN FEDERLINE's life.

Multiple sources tell ET that the FBI made attempts to contact Federline to inform him of the potential danger.

Sources within the FBI tell ET that this is the bureau's standard operating procedure when someone's life is threatened.

ET has been working this story for the past two months. When contacted, the FBI told us that the bureau cannot confirm or deny an investigation.

Here we go again. O.J. Simpson says he didn't do it, but he's been arrested for stealing his own sports memorabilia at gunpoint from a Vegas hotel room. The former football player maintains that he was only retrieving his goods swiped from him, but a tape obtained by TMZ indicates otherwise. On it, O.J. basically goes all O.J. on the vendor he claims is a thief.

"Whether or not the property belonged to Mr. Simpson or not is still in debate," a Sin City detective told the Associated Press Sunday. "Having said that, the manner in which this property was taken, we have a responsibility to look into that, irregardless of who the property belonged to."

Simpson has been charged with two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary with a firearm. If convicted, he could get as many as 30 years in state prison on each robbery count alone. He's currently being held without bail and being subjected to countless, "What happens in Vegas... " jokes.

Meanwhile, in Nashville, country singer Mindy McCready has been sentenced to a year in prison for violating her probation on a 2004 drug charge. She's already been in jail since July, when she was busted for allegedly roughing up her mother.

Sorry if this is lengthy but I need help to understand....

I've noticed that when it is getting closer to the date of a Hip concert and you are maybe telling people you are going that they will respond with sentences like:

"I went to see them in [insert year] and it was awesome."
"They are awesome live."
"I've been to X amount of shows"

Things like that. You might even hear sentences like that if you are wearing a Hip t-shirt or something. Whatever ok, that is slightly off my main point but I just wanted to get that out there and I'll come back to it at the end.

I went to the concert in Halifax on 09/13/2007, my third show, and I'd say the best one so far. My girlfriend who is what I'd call a casual fan even said it was the best concert she has been to and since then has shown a lot more interest in The Hip. Which is exactly what I expect and like to see from someone who has attended their first show.

What is bothering me though is this...

After the concert I remembered that a woman that I know's son was going to be going to the concert. He had never seen the Hip live and I think he isn't really into them that much but he had free tickets. He is 18.

I was interested to hear what a non-fan teenager thinks of the hip these days, especially after seeing a show.

I asked her this morning if her son had fun at the concert, expecting the standard "he thought it was awesome" response. Not exactly what I got. She said that he said "the music was good but they aren't very good performers". I was like "WHAT???". She was like "yeah, he said they don't really talk to the audience much".

I pretty much just said "I don't know what he is talking about it was the best concert I've ever been to". It took a lot to not say, "I think your son might be on crack".

Oh and to make it even worse, he is in school wanting to become a radio dj. What kind of Canadian radio dj is going to say "The Hip are coming to town next week, good music, but bad stage presence....".

Now on to his actual "complaint".

1. Not that I really give a shit if he does or not but Gord did provide a bit of banter to the crowd.

2. Why are bullshit "We love Halifax and hope to come back soon" comments from a lead singer important to this person? I assume that is what he was expecting.

3. Did he even go to the concert?

4. If The Tragically Hip are not good performers, who are?

He wants to be a radio DJ....jesus christ....even the radio DJ who presented the band introduced them as "the greatest band in the universe".

There is my rant. Please comment.

It's supposed to air soon on E! Canada (a new CanWest cable outlet). Anybody know when, or if E! is widely available?

How do I make sure I am doing this right? I want to be sure that I am leaving things available for other people to get from me?

Any advice on how to get the torrents started downloading would be good too...I have two torrents showing up in my client or whatever but they are just kind of sitting there, is there more that needs to be done?

The Tragically Hip to perform at CBU courtyard Friday

SYDNEY — Touring has become second nature for The Tragically Hip but even bass guitarist Gord Sinclair acknowledges Friday’s performance will be a change of pace.

“It’s been a longtime since we did a frosh week show,” he said, in a telephone interview last week as the band embarked on a short swing through Atlantic Canada. “It should be awesome. We’re very excited to come back out to Sydney. It has been a longtime and it’ll be great to get there.”

The iconic Canadian rock band will perform Friday at the Cape Breton University courtyard as part of their frosh week celebrations — and The Hip should feel right at home performing under the stars.

“We did quite a few outdoor festivals this summer. They’re a riot and we’re pretty adept at helping the riot along, I’d like to say,” said Sinclair, with a laugh.

The award-winning, multi-platinum recording group — made up of Sinclair, lead singer Gord Downie, drummer Johnny Fay and guitarists Paul Langlois and Rob Baker — formed in the mid-1980s but Sinclair said two decades have gone by in a flash.

“It’s kind of amazing how quickly the years just sort of dissolved away. Time literally does fly,” he said. “We’ve always sort of kept our eye on the near horizon with everything we’ve done with our careers . . . always looking at the next writing session, followed by the next recording session, followed by the next touring session. We’ve just always felt so fortunate to be doing what we do.”

Having criss-crossed the country countless times and travelled south of the border and abroad to perform their music, Sinclair said they’ve always maintained what he described as an “intelligent approach” to touring with lots of breaks and time off to spend at home.

“I think what breaks bands up and kills bands and harms their careers is trying to do too much, too many shows in a row to the point where you start losing sight of the fact that it’s a pleasure to be able to stand up on stage and be paid to perform music for people,” he said.

With dozens of hit songs — Bobcaygeon, Courage, Ahead by a Century, Blow at High Dough and 38 Years Old, to name a few — Sinclair said it can be a tough assignment to satisfy audiences as every fan has their favourite songs and albums. He said they’re continually rotating songs in and out of their performance set.

“Gord Downie and I sit down every night to do the set list together and, this is going to sound really selfish, but we try to keep ourselves happy first. You have to be engaged with the song in order to expect the audience to be engaged with you,” he said.

The Hip will be on the road for much of the next couple of months, touring Europe and then the U.S. before taking a break in mid-November to begin work on their next recording project.

“In a perfect world we’re hoping to have enough material compiled for a new record and hopefully get working in the spring of 2008 to get that recorded,” he said. “It’s onwards and upwards constantly for us.”

Friday’s Hip show is open to the public. CBU student tickets for the concert are $25 and are available only at Caper Convenience at CBU. I know about The Lonely End of the Rink and 50 Mission Cap, but in that Charlottetown interview Johnny said there were enough to fill an entire album. List please!
