Ok folks, time to change up the music player.

I'm going to be putting some Hip mixes up from studio albums + GH and I'll be changing it up every now and then.

So I'm looking for some playlists. SOTD won't change as in, it will still be the first song on the Music Player.

Looking for 10 - 12 songs.

Has there ever been a one hit wonder that just have some other songs that you love? Or some that still put out albums that you see yourself getting a hold of one way or another?

I'd say my one-hit-wonder guilty pleasure are the Presidents Of The United States Of America. A few of their albums still spin for my ears quite frequently.

But lately, I've been listening to a lot of the New Radicals.

They have this "other" song called, "Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough", and it has got to be one of the catchiest tunes I've ever heard.

Any one else heard that song?

What are your one-hit-wonder pleasures?

Hi Folks,

So, if my wife finds out that I lost the $50 Hip track jacket she bought for me at the show at the Harro East Ballroom show last year, she will have my head.

I'm in a frantic search for a new one before she finds out. The track jacket is zip-up style, black with white stripes and a Tragically Hip/ World Container patch over the left breast. It's a soft cotton/ fleece-like material. It was selling for $50 at the show, but I would pay more than that if need be to get another. I need a Women's XL or Men's M.

THE TRAGICALLY HIP

Canadian rockers The Tragically Hip have been playing together since the early eighties. It took a few years for them to get signed, but since their debut EP in 1987, they've been putting out fresh material every couple of years.

Even better than the many fantastic albums, their live shows are worth driving hours to see.
If you haven't heard of them, this probably isn't the best introduction, for that buy their best of (I know, best of's are for housewives and little girls) or look around the internets for more of their stuff. If you're already a fan, than here's a few things you may not have already heard:

One of the city's best-known musicians and raconteurs has died.

Wally High, a longtime fixture on the local music scene who gained prominence as Dan Aykroyd's bodyguard and assistant during the actor's time in Kingston - his business card back then read 'Spin Doctor' - died Wednesday morning. The lifelong Kingstonian was 59 and had been battling cancer for several months.

Best known locally as an organizer of the Joe Show, a fundraising concert whose proceeds established and supports a musical instrument lending library in the name of High's friend - the late Joe Chithalen - High was warmly remembered by friends and fellow musicians as committed to the local music scene.

"He was the best person in the world to work with," said Rob Doak, who worked with High for the past decade organizing the Joe Shows.

"I was incredibly imaginative, and at the same time incredibly stubborn - he always looked out for the best interests of the project, that was his goal."

Doak met High for the first time many years ago when High operated a tattoo shop here and Doak, then a competitive swimmer, had him ink a small Canadian flag over his heart as many swimmers do.

He compared the duo to Laurel & Hardy - Doak came from the business end of things while the burly High always maintained the look of the biker that he was in his younger days.

"For whatever reason, the partnership worked," Doak said.

"We never argued once, which was just remarkable."

Longtime friend and family spokesman Bill Frid also met High at his tattoo shop where Frid went in 1979 to have him cover up an old tattoo.

The two shared their last ride together on Nov. 11 when High visited his father's grave, pouring out a bottle of beer and leaving a cigarette there.

Don't ask me where I keep coming across all this stuff but The Weakerthans are performing on MTV Live on Thursday January 31 at the old Concert Hall (888 Yonge) at 6pm and you can get free tickets to be in the audience.

Okay, I was actually getting tickets to see Hayden's performance on Monday - that's how I saw it. I received info about his performance through his e-mail list and I just happened to see the Weakerthans info on the list of shows you could choose to go see.

Over the years we've heard many different songs of many different textures from the boys. Who knows whether they're in the studio or have any intentions to fire out another album this year (to keep with the 2 year release pattern) but just for discussions sake: What would you like to hear more of from The Hip on a future album?
Bring back the rawness of IBE?
The blues of road apples?
You get the idea..

Or it could be something tottally different. Personally I've always loved the fact that the hip do somethings differently on every album but it always comes out sounding like The Hip.

I would absolutely love it if the boys put out an all-acoustic album, stripped down and unpolished. If not that, at least go on a short acoustic sit-down tour. I think it would be a wonderful and memmorable detatchment from the norm. I would be interested to see how Gordie would perform at lower volumes seeing as how he wont have to bark out the words like hes been doing as of late.

None of this is a deal breaker for me, whatever they put out, ill listen to and appreciate, but we all have ideas... What are some of yours?

Hey all,

Can someone help an ignorant American out with something Canadian(ish)? The "Trailer Park Boys" movie is opening in the U.S. and A next week. Despite my only exposure to them being one Hip video and some random references made on this site, I'm going to check it out. Two questions:

Are they funny? Like good funny or cheesy funny. Example good funny might be "Super Troopers", bad funny might be "Men with Brooms". (Which I had to watch a second time to spot the boys cameo!)

Do the boys make any kind of cameo in the movie? Damn, that'd be swell if they did!

All help/comments/snide remarks are greatly appreciated!
