Been following this story for a couple days now....

Pemberton fest to sell single-day tickets
Nine Inch Nails, Coldplay, Kathleen Edwards among headliners for July music extravaganza

The Pemberton Festival announced Thursday it will be selling a limited number of single day tickets, starting next Friday.

Until now, the festival was selling only three-day passes to the music extravaganza, which takes place July 25 through 27 in the Pemberton Valley.

Single day passes will cost $149.50 per day and go on sale June 13 at 10 a.m. The three-day passes are still selling for $259.50.


Festival organizers have also announced the schedule for the three days, allowing people to plan to see their favourite acts.

Among the acts on Friday, July 25, will be Nine Inch Nails, Interpol, Kathleen Edwards and Metric.

Saturday's line-up includes Tom Petty, the Tragically Hip, the Flaming Lips and My Morning Jacket.

Sunday's big bill includes Coldplay, Jay-Z, Death Cab for Cutie and N.E.R.D.

There was outrage in the streets this morning (ok, ok, there was outrage in the Post's morning web meeting) as it looks like CBC will be getting rid of the Hockey Night in Canada theme song, making last night's broadcast, in which the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup, potentially the last time the tune will ring across the nation.

According to reports, CBC has "advised the composer, Dolores Claman (at left), that it is not prepared to enter into a new license agreement with respect to the use of the theme."

The Ampersand knows when it's being called to duty. So to help make this transition easier on our fellow countryfolk and our public broadcaster, we've assembled seven songs that might replace what has quite possibly become our second national anthem:

7. We're Going to Win, Bryan Adams: Yes, Bryan Adams.

6. Danielle (She Don't Care About Hockey), by The Hanson Brothers: The ex-NoMeansNo mix The Ramones and punk. This would be the Strombo of hockey theme songs.

5. The Lonely End of the Rink, Tragically Hip: The Hip are to music as hockey is to sport.

4. Hit Somebody, Warren Zevon: Perhaps the only American to write a song about hockey. Even though it's about a Canadian.

4. The Ballad of Wendel Clark, Part 1&2, The Rheostatics: It's easy to see the trajectory of Dave Bidini from hockey-singing rocker to hockey-writing writer.

2. Fifty Mission Cap, Tragically HIp: Leafs references? Hockey cards? NHL mythology? This song could only be bested by...

1. The Hockey Song, Stompin' Tom Connors: If you scoff, just watch the video.

With an honourable mention to: Three Cheers for Ottawa.

This concert series has moved from N. Tonawanda to Lockport and will be on Friday nights and is free.

Anybody familiar with this site? I love a good rumor as much as the next guy, and its a fun way to pass time in the off season.. but I think Eklund is trying to give me a heart attack with some of today's rumors..

-50/50 chance Lecavalier wants out of Tampa Bay and he will only go to Montreal
-Saku Koivu has convinced Teemu Selanne to come play in Montreal
-Montreal is preparing a major offer for Mats Sundin, he doesnt want to go back to Toronto apparently.

YIKES!! Lecavalier, Sundin and Selanne (an old selanne but still..) I hope you have good sources for those Ek, Im dreaming. Lecavalier, Sundin, Koivu and Plekanec down the middle..that would be insane! There might be a bit of truth to all those rumors but all of them happening, Toronto has a better chance of winning the cup next year than that happening. Its still nice to dream sometimes, thanks for playing on my emoitions! :lol:

If anybody loves rumors and hockey blogs its a site worth checking out, Eklund (as he's known) seems to have alot of inside info and posts alot of interesting things.

This guy is so criminally underrated as a guitarist. He's not flashy, he's never over the top, and when he does let loose, it always serves the song perfectly. To quote Dave Bidini, "Baker's playing is what gives the Hip's songs their painterly colours." Here are my all-time favorite Robby Baker solos:

1. Nautical Disaster- some of the most beautiful guitar work I've ever heard. Almost sounds like it's weeping.

2. Gift Shop- his solo during the song's outro is nothing short of majestic.

3. Pigeon Camera- especially live. It's bloody orgasmic.

4. Any live version of Fire in the Hole- I swear I can sometimes see smoke coming off his fretboard.

5. Fight- no explanation needed.

I was not surprised not to see this anywhere in this forum (unless I did not look hard enough). It appears it is being discussed everywhere on line and what can be said about it has been said over and over and over.

It's not entirely clear how you'd go about flogging them on eBay without arousing suspicion, but that hasn't stopped someone from stealing Kurt Cobain's ashes, according to his widow Courtney Love.

Love believes a former friend is responsible for swiping Kurt's remains, which were stored in a pink bear-shaped handbag and hidden in a wardrobe at her Hollywood home.

She now claims to be suicidal as a result of the theft: "I can't believe anyone would take Kurt's ashes from me. I find it disgusting and right now I'm suicidal. If I don't get them back I don't know what I'll do."

Most of Cobain's ashes were originally scattered at a New York Buddhist temple and in the Wishkah river in Washington state. However, Love says she kept some for herself, hidden away in a location that was a closely guarded secret until now.

"They were all I had left of him," Love said to the News of the World. "Who has their husband's ashes stolen?"

Love is hardly a stranger to controversy. This March she claimed that someone had used Cobain's social security number to steal more than $200 million from his estate. As with the theft of his ashes, Love believes the culprit was known to her.

Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994.

Just a few more days and the second biggest international footie tourney kicks off...I'm quite excited, as Turkey plays the first evening game. No doubt the streets of Istanbul will be riotous if they pull off an upset over Portugal.

Who's everyone's pick? Naturally, Group C is the strongest, but whoever makes it out of that group alive might be a bit tired by the time they hit the quarter-finals.

Germany's my bet to raise the cup amongst the favourites. Look for Podolski to have a righteous tournament.

As far as darkhorses, I like the looks of Romania, Russia or Turkey. As Greece proved 4 years ago though, could go any way. Should be good.
