Here we go with Day for Night; 14 tracks of awesomeness to pare down to determine the victor!
As before, vote for the song you believe to be the weakest on Day for Night and after 48 hours, we will remove the three songs that have the most votes. As before, a song must have at least 10% of the vote in order to be removed otherwise it will carry forward into the following round.
The poll will end Friday at 9:01am Eastern.
Happy voting!
Shane
Day for Night -- released September, 1994. I've always found the producer credit interesting on this one. Mark Howard, who recorded and mixed some amazing albums (REM, Daniel Lanois who is I assume The Hip connection). His first producer credit. And then also credited is Mark Vreeken, then front of house for the band (now sound engineer and producer). I'd love to know who did what tracks.
When forced, I always list this as my top Hip album. Partially a time and place memory. I lived in Kingston when this album was released. I recall one of the downtown record stores was opening at midnight of release day, and there were rumors the band was playing one of the downtown bars. Picked up the CD, then went from bar to bar and a few pool halls looking for the rumored show...which I never found and I don't think every was actually happening.
After seeing a fair number of FC shows, was happy to get a full version of Nautical on album. 23 years later, still an incredible album that I could listen to every day and discover something new. It's a great headphone album -- the guitar tone is incredible.
The DFN tour also has one of my favorite stops -- Kingston Memorial Center. Stood in a snowstorm to get tickets and skipped work. Saw them play Get Back Again, wish I could say was amazing but absolutely no memory of it. Saw the show the next night in Ottawa at the Civic Center, and it was total pandemonium.
I'll do a bit of a track by track summary, but in the meantime we can debate the fadeout on Emergency
.
"Grace, Too"
"Daredevil"
"Greasy Jungle"
"Yawning or Snarling"
"Fire in the Hole"
"So Hard Done By"
"Nautical Disaster"
"Thugs"
"Inevitability of Death"
"Scared"
"An Inch an Hour"
"Emergency"
"Titanic Terrarium"
"Impossibilium"
On to the final round - certainly some tough choices to this point to be left with Hundredth and Locked.

We'll Go Too
Eliminated Round 2:
Eldorado
Eliminated Round 3:
Fifty Mission Cap
Looking for a Place to Happen

So, after 17 years in the vault, we put out our music for sale on Itunes and Amazon. Eric remastered it and slapped a cover on it. Midnight Shade is what the other members made the band name. I mentioned that there were already bands with that name but that did not halt the go-ahead. bastards
cratch:
My mind was blank on coming up with a name, so.......Midnight Shade it is. :nooooo
Having said that, I love my bandmates. Pretty powerful and telepathic newbies when we recorded this (2001). Mostly one take per song(-2), altogether in one room except the singer was in a closet, within two days for 1400 bucks.
It was my dream to make this album, and it manifested. Enjoy.

Round 3 was a little weird as the move to the Weakest Link forum saw voting dip. Sean has graciously offered to move them when the polls finish so we will move back to the main forum.

No words, aside from crushed.................
What a loss
Round 2, as predicted by potsie, saw Eldorado suffer the same fate as Twist My Arm with Road Apples. The remaining songs did not get 10% of the vote and will remain into Round 3.
