Up to this point of the tour, the Hip have performed 76 different songs. They have hinted that another 10-15 songs may appear before the tour ends. When looking through the albums, I noticed that many of the songs not yet played often appear in groups of three.

If you had your choice, which group of 3 songs would you most like the Hip to reinstate into their setlists?

With so many little Hip fans popping up in the Hipbase community the last couple of years, and so many ready to arrive.
Any advice/tricks for first time parents that they may have not thought of already.

I offer my first point of advice.

1. I have two sponges by the sink - one for the bottles and one for everything else.
I do not need to be washing the bottles with the same sponge that I just cleaned up raw chicken with.

Looking for insights on how the phrase "Athabasca depends" is being used in The Depression Suite...I know there was a novel titled Athabasca by McClain (I just put a hold on it at he library)...any thoughts/comments?

DETROIT — Inspired by the wide sonic sweep of its new album, “We Are the Same,” the Tragically Hip is playing a lot of music during its current North American tour.

Frontman Gordon Downie says the Canadian quintet planned from the beginning to play lengthy shows with an intermission. “We did that once, about 10 years ago,” he recalls. “I think we decided with this [album], we needed to do something where we could expand the margins and really work on the dynamics, from a pin drop to blow the doors off.”

He says the Hip’s audiences can expect “lots of songs” from the new album but also a generous selection of older music to provide context for the fresh material. “I just think our list of songs has grown to the point where we need to incorporate a lot of songs from our past,” Downie explains. “We’ve got 90-odd songs we’re going to touch on at least once [during the tour]. So hopefully it’ll keep people on their toes a little bit. It definitely keeps us on our toes. We just want to do something different, somehow, and that’s what we’re doing.”

The presence of an extra utility musician, playing keyboards and providing background vocals, will also help the Hip “touch a lot on the rest of our sound,” according to Downie. “It’s making a lot of songs sound brand new again. Like ‘Gift Shop;’ there’s an intro to that that’s pretty atmospheric that we couldn’t really touch before. It’s certainly making us better, ultimately, all the way across.”

“We Are the Same’s” 12 songs were culled from roughly 40 ideas the group came up with and pored over with producer Bob Rock. But Downie isn’t sure what will happen with the unused material.

“Ultimately, you always vow you’ll put them on the next record, but you never do,” he says with a laugh. “When you start winnowing them for [the album] you don’t work on the other ones much, so they stay in an uncompleted state as you move forward with the ones you’re interested in. They all have titles. They have melodies. They’re still there, but what we’ll do with them I can’t say.”

I have a big dilemma. I have pit tickets for Thursday, and 4th row Sat.....My problem is that the Penguins are in the cup finals and will be playing Thurs(and most likly sat). My wife and I are going to the Hip show sat, but I don't think I can miss 2 games in the finals :nooooo anyone want to trade their fri(I know fri is a better day) for my thursday? pm if interested

I filmed this show with my handheld camera, and I think it turned out pretty well, considering I had to hold the camera the whole time and a drunk guy wouldn't leave me alone :nooooo during the second set until he got thrown out. :lol: I got the whole show, but there are a few small cuts/tape changes. I didn't realize they were doing two sets, so I only brought 2 DV tapes. I have an external mic for the camera, so the sound is pretty good, too, imo. :thumb:

If there is interest, I would love to trade someone a copy of my DVD for some other, older Hip show on DVD. I don't mind doing several trades, either. It would be great if someone that gets it has the capability to put it on the tracker so others can download it, because I don't know how to do that. Please contact me if interested.
