Hello fellow Hipsters,
I'm looking for a decent copy of the 1988 Barrymore's show in Ottawa. There were 2 shows that year and it's definitely the one in the fall that I'm after.
What a night! The band were just on fire. The place was rocking so hard that the balconies were shaking!
I've never experienced such a glorious night of Rock and Roll!!
When I saw them at the NAC this past fall, they were positively great, but I'll never forget that night in '88 ...

If any kind soul can help me out, I'd much appreciative!

Thanks,
Tim in Ottawa

Paul McCartney announces Toronto show in August

Nearly five years to the day since his last sold-out performance at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Paul McCartney will return to the same venue, according to announcements posted on Pollstar.com and PaulMcCartney.com.

McCartney and his band will perform one show, at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, according to the announcement.

Though he's not officially "on tour," McCartney has scheduled scattered dates in North America and Europe throughout the summer. This is in keeping with the trend started following the release of his recent "Memory Almost Full and "The Fireman: Electric Arguments albums where the former Beatle schedules his appearances with plenty of down time between them. McCartney, who will be 68 on June 18, has suggested that doing so allows him to present three-hour shows without the wear-and-tear a full tour itinerary might impose on his voice.

Tickets will go on sale to the public on Monday June 14th, at 12pm local time, through all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at (416) 870-8000, or online at www.ticketmaster.ca, the announcements say. Tickets will also be available at Air Canada Centre ticket office , though there will be no first day sales at that location, according to McCartney's web site.

Advance tickets are available to American Express Cardmembers beginning on Tuesday, June 8th, at 10am, and continuing through Friday June 11th at 10pm

The Sadies were interviewed by Gord Downie.
With awesome shots of The Bathouse.
(and hey! I actually have the same compass as Gord)

Rumour has it that there used to be some old Sam Roberts kicking around here? I'm talking Northstar EP and maybe even the original Brother Down album...

If anyone is willing to share, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

- Andrew

I don't know how to explain this without sounding completely out of my mind, so I'm not going to try. Let's just assume I'm crazy. Above is a photo of what I have taken to calling a "songmap," containing the titles of all official Hip songs (including bonus tracks, but nothing unreleased) grouped and linked... wordily? Linguistically? Thematically?

I was taking that quiz where you try to name all the Hip's songs, and it occurred to me that I have this mental map. You know, songs about water --> songs about animals that live in the water --> songs about animals that don't live in the water --> songs about places animals live. Etc etc. So I drew that mental map, found the way it played out fascinating, and thought some of you guys might be interested in the result. I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with this thing, though; for a long time I couldn't decide if it was crazy or cool, but I've had some time away from it (I stopped drawing these in February) and am leaning toward cool. Anyway. It's marker on CP watercolour paper.

Here's the full thing (this one isn't the Really Final Version, actually; I think this is take 3 of 5, but it's the one I've got vaguely decent photos of right now). Click for the giant version:
