Many people here know that a couple of the Hip guys were in a band called The Filters before assembling The Hip.
But what I did not know until today was that Finny McConnell of The Mahones was a member of The Filters with the boys.

...Finny McConnell of The Mahones was born in Dublin, Ireland. His parents emigrated to Canada when he was a kid, settling in Kingston, where they opened a hotel with two Irish pubs. But when he was fed his first taste of traditional Irish tunes, he spit it back out. McConnell started the band the Filters with his pals Gord Downie and Rob Baker, of Tragically Hip fame, in high school. But the band split when they wrapped up their final school year.

"When they went to university at Queens, I moved to London, England for five years studying rock 'n' roll on the streets," said McConnell. Fuelled by the attitudes of Celtic punk pioneers The Pogues and the Waterboys, McConnell travelled home to Kingston in 1990 and formed The Mahones, originally meant as a one-off punk show for a St. Patrick's Day party in an Irish pub....

I have never watched this show, but twitter informed me that one of the female competitors would be covering "Courage". Apparently it should be aired on Sunday. Probably be able to post a youtube video once it airs.

Meh, maybe its only interesting to me, but....

Last night I was watching Michael Moore's documentary "Capitalism: A Love Story". It's fantastic by the way, I have watched it about 10 times. Anyways, I had never watched the DVD extra's before and in it was an extended interview with congressman Elijah Cummings.

During the interview while talking about changing the system, right around the 3:35 mark he seems to make a Hip reference....seems too odd to be a coincidence if you ask me!

To Download Or Not To Download? That is the question.

Whether to be nobler to the artist or succumb to the instinct of curiosity and entitlement. Working on the assumption most in this forum are true music lovers, Hip and beyond, what is your position on this matter?

Personally I feel my monetary contributions to this industry far outweigh the cost of the content I have downloaded, hence I can rationalize it from an entitlement perspective. And yet I do feel ethically challenged, especially when it comes to the realization this practice can adversely affect the artist, especially those trying to break into commercial relevance.

Ok, so I'm not sure if this is actually where I would post something like this or not, but anyway.....

I collect concert posters from the shows I go to, and I know an old retired school teacher who does framing as a hobby. Anyway, I sent the poster tube that contained my 2009 Tragically Hip (buffalo head) poster and my 2009 Pearl Jam chicago poster to him to get them framed. As it turns out, I also had a couple of the small poster ads for the Live at the Bathouse show in there too (awesome show by the way, if you didn't see it). Apparently I put them in the poster tube to store them there. So this guy opens the poster tube and finds the two big posters I want framed as well as the two smaller ones, and he assumes that I want all these poster framed.

Anyway, I'm not going to rock the boat with this guy because it was my fault for having the extra posters in there, and he is a really nice old fella that thought he was doing the right thing. End result is now I have two mini framed posters from this event that I wasn't planning on.....and will now have to pay for.

So I'm hoping someone on here might be interested in buying one of these from me. They do look pretty cool in a frame and I'm really hoping to just cover my costs or at least help to minimize the damage. Shipping would be on me of course.

Let me know if your interested!

Thanks in advance guys.

Ok, so I'm not very computer sauvy, and I don't know how to put a picture up on here. If anyone lese knows how, I would happily email you the pics I took to post on here for me.
