Just wondering, while I'm sitting here watching the clock move way too slowly.
I just want this to go smooth so I can hopefully get the best seats possible, preferably on the floor.

We'd be less than honest if we told you we have rabidly followed the two-decades-long career of the Canadian quintet the Tragically Hip. Never liked the smarty-pants name much. The music struck us as mediocre middle-of-the-road rock. Even the positive (four-star) review of its latest disc, "In Between Evolution," in Maxim didn't make us rush to put the CD, their 11th, in the player: "This is music that makes you want to drive all night across an endless wasteland of frozen plains (read: Canada)." We don't want to drive across any endless wasteland for any reason. We grew up in Maine. We've done wasteland. But this record, released on the local Zoe/Rounder label, is getting under our skin in a Neil Young & Crazy Horse way. Credit guitarists Rob Baker and Paul Langlois for that. There's an antiwar subtext permeating this work. Rather pertinent. This -- and its striving sound -- remind us of the late, tragically underrated band the Call. And we like the Hip's twist on Sister Sledge's "We Are Family," called "Are We Family," with its notion of Americans "taking care of each other, one bullet to another." The Tragically Hip plays the third date of its tour, an 18-plus show, at Avalon tonight. The Sam Roberts Band opens at 8. Tickets: $28.25. 15 Lansdowne St., 617-262-2424.

So thanks to my security job I am now officially nocturnal. I worked from 8pm to 8am overnight Sun-Mon and then slept from noon to midnight tonight...woke up shortly after midnight Tuesday and have been browsing online ever since. Don't ask what I'm doing about classes...six thousand beans a year and I don't go to class.

So I'm just wondering, is there anyone else out there who's more or less nocturnal? Anybody who wakes up at sunset and rolls on through the night? Just curious...I feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes. After three days and night existing in darkness I actually had to put my sunglasses on when I sat down at the computer after waking up tonight :oops:

Even with all the complications, I actually derive a perverse sense of joy from being completely at odds with the rest of the working world. I like being on the "fringes" of the working population...the only time it becomes annoying is when somebody says "What day is it?" just because it would take five seconds to think for themselves and I think really hard and I honestly can't remember. In fact when I was typing my chronology at the beginning of my post I had to check my computer's clock to make sure it really was Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Even my taste in music has changed. When you live under the moon, the kind of music you might have otherwise considered suitable for hot sunny days, or rainy depressing days, or violent stormy days, or the other myriad metereological conditions on various days, becomes completely compromised given that from where I sit all night, I have to get up and open a door just to see what the weather is like. And you're always in a constant state of semi-alertness, a gentle reverie...there's no real highs or lows like normal, diurnal people feel on different days...so the music you'd find appropriate for various moods blends into the homogeny of perpetual blase passivity.

Anyway...just some unfocused babbling...anybody else in the house share my perspective?

I did a search and no threads specifically about this band came up, just mentions, so I hope this hasn't been done before.

I have heard a lot of good things about Widespread Panic, and when I recently heard they were into Southern rock, I figured why not give them a shot. So where's a good place to start with them? I have never heard a single song, and I'm looking to start with their most commercial music, IE whatever's closest to their roots...obviously you have to appreciate a band on a basic level to appreciate their most experimental or abstract stuff.

Does anybody have a favourite song they'd be willing to send me on MSN or an album to recommend?

The GOOD name of Kalashnikov?! Apparently efforts by American liberals haven't been very successful...


LONDON, England (Reuters) -- The creator of one of the world's most famous guns, the AK-47 assault rifle, has launched another weapon in Britain -- Kalashnikov vodka.

Lt. Gen. Mikhail Kalashnikov, who invented the AK-47 after being shot by German soldiers during World War II, said Monday he wanted to continue "the good name" of his gun.

"I've always wanted to improve and expand on the good name of my weapon by doing good things," he told Reuters Television.

"So we decided to create a vodka under my name. And we wanted that vodka to be better than anything made, up until now, in both Russia and England."

The Kalashnikov rifle has become the weapon of choice for guerrillas and gangsters across the world. But Kalashnikov said his original intentions for the gun were purely patriotic.

"I did not create the gun for international conflicts, I created it to protect the borders of my country," he said.

"It is not my fault that it has been spread all over the world. It is its reliability and its simplicity that have taken it all over the world."

Promoters of Kalashnikov vodka, which is 82 proof, say it is "made from grain harvested in Russia and water drawn from Lake Ladoga north of St. Petersburg" and is best drunk with friends.

My vote goes to "no". I always get front row tickets by showing up outside a Sobey's a few hours before sale time in the morning. I heard that people in the US who used Hip Club presales did not get the best seats, so I was wondering if most people will bother.

WHITEHORSE - A pedestrian in a Whitehorse suburb was taken aback Tuesday night when a black dog drove by in a red pickup truck.

Police said a resident was out for a walk when a truck with a Labrador retriever at the wheel passed by.

When RCMP arrived, the truck was in the middle of Thompson Road in Granger, blocking traffic. The dog was still behind the wheel.

"Our subsequent investigation indicates that the dog was possibly celebrating the Canadian victory in the hockey game, knocked the truck into gear, and it rolled down the hill," said RCMP Sgt. John Sutherland.

The RCMP went door-to-door in the neighbourhood and eventually found the owner. He was at a friend's house, watching Canada beat Finland in the World Cup hockey final.

There were no injuries or damages in the incident. Police did not say whether they plan to charge the owner.

What's up with Hipclub? I can't get any information from them about pre-sale. I'm registered there with an old extinct email address, so I can't seem to get anywhere. Presale password help would be appreciated!

can anyone tell me the pre-sale password for the London Ontario show, the tickets go on sale Tues. sep 21 at 12:00 and I havent got an email telling me yet, Im a Hip Club member, can anyone help me out please.
