OK, this is the most bizarre situation I have EVER encountered with a computer. I swear this is true.

I downloaded a dozen blues box sets (cos I don't have $1000 to blow) and when I went to play the songs I found only about 5% of the songs were really "there". Let me explain. This one box set, for instance, was supposed to be 798 megs, but when I clicked on "folder properties," it said it was only 76 megs. And only 15 of the 129 songs will play. The rest say "header error" or something. So I listened to the 15 songs that I was able to play, and deleted them.

So then I tried to delete the whole folder, and it couldn't be deleted. Apparently whatever "header" problem wouldn't allow the songs to play also wouldn't allow them to be "found" and deleted. This pissed me off. Even though the folder technically said "empty", I knew I had downloaded 798 megs of stuff, and that was now taking up space on my hard drive. So I moved the folder out of My Music to a folder I never use so I wouldn't have to see, and therefore think about, the problematic box set. I then discovered all of the other 11 box sets had the same problem. So technically there were 12 folders totalling 3.8 gigs that I could not delete, and which all claimed to be empty.

BUT WAIT! Suddenly I was surprised to discover that when I moved the folders to the out-of-sight, out-of-mind folder, another 5% of the songs became available for playing and deleting. So I listened to and deleted the ones I could. I tried it again by moving all the folders to another folder, and another dozen songs became available again.

So this has had me confused as hell. The other day I downloaded a movie that took up almost all of the 6 gigs available on my hard drive. The real mystery here is, I should only have 4.5 gigs available considering those "phantom" songs take up that much. But since the folder claims to be empty, my computer thinks it is, and therefore allocates the space they take up on my HD for other purposes. After I downloaded that movie, I technically had 34 gigs of stuff on my 32 gig hard drive.

So I have been moving the folders, listening to and deleting what becomes available time after time after time. After two weeks I have gotten through about two-thirds of the songs. And every time I move the folders to a new folder, a few more songs become available. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?! How the hell is this possible?! THIS IS BULLSHIT! Either the songs are on my HD or they're not! Either they're playable or they're not...right? Apparently not.

So, all that to say, my question for the technophiles is: what the fuck?

Released today. They have 89 and need to cut it down to 25 I believe.

Would love to see any of the ex Bills get a nod. Tasker, Talley, Hull, Spielman, and mostly...

the man himself, Mr. Ralph Wilson! He's gotta make the top 25.

It will be tough for Bills to get in with a lot of big names up this year. I am sure whoever gets in will deserve it. Unless it is any Miami Dolphin player!

This is one that isn't normally dissected like some of the others, yet it keeps coming up among personal favourites and has some pretty descriptive lyrics.

I haven't been able to put a finger on one particular thing, but some observations...

I think it could be about power, about dominance, about holding sway over somebody or a group of people. The obvious misogynistic over tone is there, but I think it could go deeper than that:

- I see migrant Mexican workers in the Tobacco fields of Ontario. This came to me for two reasons.

#1 The Vapour Trails themselves, both from the cigarette's they're making/smoking, and the jet fumes from planes passing over head. In Ontario, migrant workers fired from the job, have to be on a plane back to Mexico (Or wherever) within 24 hours... They can only file an appeal once they've arrived home. It's an arbitrary system, and these men have little or no rights and work for next to nothing. They're basically oppressed in the land where they seek a better life.

#2 I watched a group of them harvesting Strawberries at a farm outside Carp (near Ottawa) and immedeatly noticed how they line up and then literally lean on their hoe's or pitchforks and then lean over the hose at the end of the day in order to clean their shoes... could this be what Gord is referencing?

So, I'm getting the unequal power men often assert over women and the inequitable power "the state" ("The Man..." whichever) holds over the less fortunate.

Does anybody have any other interpretations about VT?

Student Injured In Post-Game Red Sox Celebration Dies
Boston Police Investigate Riot Force

BOSTON -- An Emerson student died Tuesday after being injured Wednesday night as police tried to subdue crowds celebrating the Red Sox's American League Championship Series victory.

Victoria Snelgrove, 21, of East Bridgewater, died at Brigham and Women's Hospital Thursday from injuries she suffered after Game 7. A spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said Snelgrove may have been hit by a rubber bullet. Police said that there was no evidence that she had been beaten. Several other fans were also reportedly injured.

"They've used them in the past. They've also tried not to use the lethal weapons. Well, everybody says, 'Why'd you use them?' and we try to do the best we can to squelch the crowd. You know, they were very belligerent, some of those guys," Boston Mayor Tom Menino said.

Police said between 60,000 and 80,000 people -- most of them students from nearby universities -- flooded the streets around Fenway Park and Kenmore Square after the Sox's 10-3 win over the New York Yankees.

The celebrations turned serious when fans torched a car, lit trashcans on fire and vandalized store signs. A disgusted fast-food store manager found the burned-out shell of a car on Boylston Street when she reported for work Thursday morning.

"I come in this morning and this is what I found. I'm disappointed, I really am. If they were true fans they never would have done this," she said.

Angry Fenway residents had to deal with rowdy crowds that overturned cars, threw barrels and climbed light poles, trees, cars and walls. Sixteen people were injured during the post-game rioting, some of them after trying to scale the Green Monster wall at Fenway Park and falling off. About 2:30 a.m., police closed Lansdowne Street after an confrontation between police and fans. One fan, a female college student, was reported critically injured by police trying to break up the crowd.

The city said 1,000 police were on the streets in full riot gear, wearing vests and helmets and carrying batons. They used a full arsenal of weapons, including K-9 units. Police said eight arrests were made. Sixteen injuries were also reported. One police officer suffered a broken nose when someone threw something at him from the crowd.

Those arrested were ordered to appear in Roxbury District Court Thursday morning. Among them was a Northeastern University student charged with disorderly conduct. A judge ordered him to stay away from the Fenway area during the World Series. He claimed he was the one who was victimized.

"I was giving everyone high 5s, everyone's pumped up, you know, it's spur of the moment. I jumped over the curb, I had an open 24-pack of Coors Light and a couple of them fell, I tripped on the curb and a couple of the beers spilled over. Next thing I know, there's like four or five cops pummeling me on the ground," Christian Martini said.

The mayor said the city may take steps to curb legal drinking establishments during the World Series games in Boston this weekend.

"We're going to have to take some drastic measures since people won't act responsibly. I as mayor will take it into my own hands, and probably ban liquor being sold in bars and, once the game starts, bar TV cameras in the bars during the games; try to do everything we can to keep the peace," Menino said.

WCVB-TV in Boston reported that the police crowd control plan, which had been devised to deal with the Democratic Convention in Boston this summer, is under review and police officials said they will have to revise it before the World Series games.
