Hey hockey fans...

I'm spearheading a hockey pool for the restaurant that I work at, and I think a few poeple on the 'Base might be interestedin joining up. So far I have a dozen people on board at work. The rules are a bit different than your normal hockey pool, but I think the rules make it a lot of fun. Please PM me, or post here if you are interested. Here are the rules:

Salty’s Hockey Pool 2005-2006

Picking your team
Each team must consist of 20 players: 12 forwards, 6 defencemen, and 2 goalies. You must pick your entire team within a $32 million total payroll, based on 2005-06 individual player salaries. As a bonus, you can pick a 21st player who will NOT count against your salary cap. The player can not be a goalie, but he can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want. Consider it a marquee pick. I will print out an entire league payroll at a later date, and provide you with one so you can choose your players. You can pick no more than three players from one particular team. For example, you can pick Peter Forsberg, Eric Desjardins and Robert Esche but you can not have Derian Hatcher on your team. You can only have a max of three from a team.
Teams must be chosen by October 1st and handed in, or e-mailed, to me. You can e-mail your team picks any time after September 17th to <!-- e --><a href="mailtoConfusedaltyshockey@hotmail.com">saltyshockey@hotmail.com</a><!-- e -->

Points system
The points system is as follows:
Skaters:
Goal: 2 pts.
Assists: 1 pt.
Power Play Goals: 1 pt.
Shorthanded Goals: 2 pts.
Game Winning Goals: 3 pts.
+/-: 1 pt.

Example: Jaromir Jagr scores the game-winner on the powerplay: 1 pt for the goal + 1 pt for it being on the powerplay + 3 pts for the gamewinner = 5 pts.

Goalies:
Win: 2 pts.
Tie/Shootout loss: 1 pt.
Shutout: 5 pts.
Games played: 1 pt. each
Saves: 0.25 pts. Each

Example: Dominik Hasek wins the opening game by a 2-0 score and makes 36 saves. 2 pts for the win + 5 pts for the shutout + 1 pt for the game played + 9 pts for 36 saves (36 X .25) = 17 total points.

Trade periods
The season will be divided up in three trade periods: October 19th - Nov. 15th; Nov. 16th - Dec 31st; and Jan 1st - March 10th (the actual NHL trade deadline). Within each trading period, you may trade two players, at any point within that period. When replacing another player, that player’s points will count from the following game only.For example, if you trade for Eric Lindros on November 9th, only the points that he scores from that point on, will count on your totals. You can not claim his previous points in the season up to that point. Please note: these trades are not between fellow pool players.

Cost:
The cost to enter the pool depends on how much of the total pot you want to win at the end of the season. Here’s how it works:
If you only want to spend $5 to enter, you will receive 20% of the total pot at the end of the season. For example, if the total entry fees amount to $100, you would receive $20 for winning, and the rest would be divided amongst 2nd place, 3rd place, etc. Here are the other percentages:
$5 = 20 %
$10 = 30%
$20 = 40%
$30 = 50%
$50 = 100% (If you submit a $50 entry fee, you will win the entire pot at the end of the season)

How to keep track of your team
All teams, and standings, can be viewed at <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.HockeyDraft.ca">www.HockeyDraft.ca</a><!-- w --> Every team and every player’s points will be automatically tabulated at 2 A.M. each day, so they will be up to date when you want to view your standing. You can also sign up for weekly e-mail updates from the website. As administrator, I will enter each team as they are turned in to me. When you pay your entry fee, you will receive the user name and password to log in to the website. The user name and password will be the same for each player. A demo is available at the site, so feel free to explore.

Deadlines
Entry fees must be received by Friday, September 16th. Your final team for opening night must be received by October 1st. On September 17th, I will give a print-out of player salaries to everyone in the pool. In the meantime, you can get an idea of player slaries from the TSN website:

Neil is back and healthy and just played two 3 hour + concerts in Nashville that were filmed by Jonathan Demme. Neil had some things to say about Live 8 in this article on Canoe.ca.

He had harsh words for the TV networks about their Live 8 coverage of concerts around the world.

"It was so commercialized in the end," said Young, who sang at the event in Barrie, Ont.

But on the plus side, he said it "did herald the end of TV as we know it, which I think is one of the greatest signs of Live 8."

He said the media seemed out of step with reality.

"It did show that the Internet was the future . . . you won't have to listen to these complete jerk VJs interrupting historic performances by artists that haven't been together in 20 years to talk about how emotionally involved they are in the performance," he said.
